Eric G. VanKirk is an Associate Attorney at Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky, working primarily in the area of civil litigation.
Mr. VanKirk comes to SMGG after having served as a Judicial Law Clerk for Honorable Michael A. Della Vecchia of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County while attending law school in the evening. As a former judicial law clerk, Mr. VanKirk was able to gain an in depth experience and an appreciation for a wide range of matters including medical malpractice, products liability, property damage, wrongful termination, personal injury, and mass tort cases among others. As a judicial clerk Mr. VanKirk was tasked with preparing bench memoranda, findings of fact and conclusions of law, trial briefs jury instructions, and opinions for the court. Having transitioned into private practice, Mr. VanKirk brings the unique benefits and experience gained by working so closely with the bench to his civil litigation practice. He accredits his time as a judicial law clerk to adding tremendous value to his practice.
After having spent ten years in the Department of Court Records for the Criminal Division where he supervised the Summary Appeals, Expungement, ARD, Bail forfeiture, and Docketing sections of the office, Mr. VanKirk has a detailed knowledge of the ins and outs of Allegheny County’s criminal courts and its requirements. Beyond gaining knowledge of criminal matters, his time in the Department of Court Records instilled in Mr. VanKirk tremendous discipline and the value of organization and timeliness.
Outside of the courtroom, Mr. VanKirk enjoys traveling, playing softball, basketball, and golf. He is an active member of his church and a volunteer at various community events. He is also a loyal Penguins fan and has followed the team to eight cities for away games.
A native of McKeesport, Mr. VanKirk currently resides in the South Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife and their two daughters.
